Westward
"Westward" is a captivating visual journey that serves as a photo travel diary chronicling an adventure shared with my college best friend Tina. This excursion led us from the expanse of Salt Lake City to the illustrious landscapes of Portland, down the picturesque west coast to the allure of San Francisco, before returning full circle back to Salt Lake City. Within these images lies a poignant reminder of a time when film and analog cameras were the vehicles through which cherished moments were immortalized.
The choice to wield a simple Holga camera for this voyage reflects a deliberate departure from the burdens of cumbersome, high-tech equipment. Instead, I embraced a more uncomplicated approach, allowing the pure joy of the experience to take priority. The resulting soft, evocatively blurry aesthetic of the photographs serves as a visual echo of the emotions that these memories evoke within me.
Upon my return, I meticulously translated these memories into tangible form. Black and white prints, carefully handcrafted, were thoughtfully bound together to create a singular narrative. Yet, the journey didn't conclude there. The negatives were eventually transformed into digital prints, a bridge between the tangible past and the digital present, serving as a perpetual reminder of the adventure's enduring resonance.
This collection, encapsulating the spirit of "Westward," serves as an exploration of not only physical landscapes but also of the intangible realms of nostalgia, emotion, and the transformative power of the photographic medium.
