Doppelgänger

"Doppelgänger" examines the concept of physical and emotional dualism, using staged poses and double exposures to create an illusion of twin-like figures inhabiting the same frame. Through the deliberate use of a pinhole camera, I layer multiple exposures of myself into a single image, evoking a dialogue between different aspects of embodiment, identity, personality, and self-perception. These dualities coexist within one body, revealing the simultaneous presence of multiple selves.

The series embraces a heightened, theatrical atmosphere that reflects the inherent drama of occupying multiple emotional and metaphysical states at once. Through role-play and the embodiment of various personas within a single visual narrative, I explore symbols of multiplicity, introspection, and the complex emotional terrain of existence. Each guise represents a fragment of a larger story, inviting viewers to reflect on the multifaceted roles we navigate in contemporary public and private spaces.

The choice to employ a pinhole camera, rather than modern digital tools, underscores the timeless and tactile quality of this work. This method references the early days of photography, connecting to the medium’s historical roots while reflecting on the layered meanings of self-representation. The soft, surreal nature of the exposures mirrors the intangible, layered nature of human identity, offering a contemplative lens into the dualities we all carry within ourselves.
