The Chicago Architecture Commission originated as a commissioned project during my graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. Tasked by the University of Illinois Urbana_Champaign's School of Business, I was invited to photograph the unique architectural character of both the Urbana-Champaign campus and Chicago’s business district, capturing the essence and spirit of these distinctive locations.
This series visually explores the interplay between two architectural landscapes, seamlessly bridging the University’s academic mission with the vibrant urban environment of Chicago. Between 2000 and 2003, I traversed the Urbana-Champaign campus and Chicago’s iconic architectural sites, carefully selecting and documenting personal and community favorites using a medium-format analog camera.
The resulting collection celebrates the connection between design, history, and space, reflecting the shared identity of academia and city life. Today, 20 curated photographs from this series are permanently displayed at the Business Center’s Chicago location. This exhibition honors the dynamic relationship between art, education, and urban landscapes, offering viewers a thoughtful exploration of spaces that inspire and shape their communities.
